Academic Health Center Immunization Requirements

To comply with Minnesota State law and Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations, student immunizations and vaccinations are required. Students unable or unwilling to comply with the immunization policy will be unable to do fieldwork or graduate from the Program in Occupational Therapy because fieldwork is a requirement of graduation. Upon admission to a U of M Academic Health Center program, including Occupational Therapy, students are required to submit proof of the following immunizations and vaccinations:

Required

  • Measles, mumps, rubella documentation or positive titer
  • Polio
  • Tuberculosis Skin Test (Mantoux) A student who cannot provide documentation that he/she has had a Mantoux within the past twelve months is required to have a two-step Mantoux. A student with a positive Mantoux must show documentation of a negative chest x-ray. AHC students are required to document annual Mantoux tests while enrolled in an academic program. (Some fieldwork sites require more frequent testing.)
  • Hepatitis B series or documented immunity
  • DTP or diphtheria tetanus within the last ten years.
  • Varicella Zoster (Chicken Pox) Positive history or positive titer

An annual influenza immunization is strongly recommended.
