About the Curriculum in Occupational Therapy
The OT program is delivered on two performance sites. Please visit the Center for Allied Health Program's web pages to learn more about our sites on the Twin Cities and Rochester campuses.
Students enter the year-round curriculum in the fall. Full-time study is expected until completion of the curriculum. Students enroll for a minimum of 22 months of study, taking 59 credits of predetermined graduate-level academic coursework, 6 scholarly project credits, and a minimum of 12 credits of full-time fieldwork education prior to graduation (77 total graduate-level credits). The required fieldwork must be completed within 24 months of finishing academic coursework. All students should expect to travel and arrange alternative housing to attend a fieldwork placement.
The curriculum uses a hybrid educational model with a blend of distance (technology-enhanced) and face-to-face instruction. Students come to campus several times each semester for face-to-face interaction with other students and faculty. These on-campus sessions (2-3 consecutive days per session) increase in frequency across the semesters. During the Spring Semester, students attending class on the Rochester site may be expected to travel to the Twin Cities site for cadaver laboratory learning experiences. This may involve up to 7-8 trips.
Upon graduation, students are awarded the Master of Occupational Therapy degree (MOT degree) and are eligible to take the National Board of Certification in Occupational Therapy examination.
